On a nippy Sunday afternoon, as a delicious roast dinner from The Hastings Arms sat snugly under our belts, it was with delight we spotted a Facebook post about this matinee gig.
It came from local friend to the music scene, Andy Gunton – and reminded us why we set up this site…Hastings has so much going on, but it’s easy to miss it!
When we got to the Jenny Lind it was just Toby, his steel guitar and a small amp – that was all that was needed. The full King Size Slim band is always a treat, but it’s the mark of a great songsmith that they can stand on their own two feet and perform just as powerfully solo.
The front bar of the Jenny Lind is just about perfect for these intimate shows. And the rear bar gives people who want to chat somewhere to do it without disturbing the enjoyment of lovers of great music.
Toby plays heavyweight rootsy blues with a unique style that borders on manic but draws in the listener to his warped world.
