Royal Academy-trained saxophonist Dan Foster returns to Barnaby’s with a superb trio featuring Stuart Jackaman on guitar and James Sunney on bass. With a career spanning BBC Radio 3 & 4, extensive UK and European touring and collaborations with musicians including John Etheridge, Mike Garrick, the Pasadena Roof Orchestra, London Jazz Orchestra and Tony Hadley, Dan brings a wealth of experience to an intimate Friday night at Barnaby’s.
Dan Foster
Dan is a Royal Academy of Music-trained saxophonist who studied with Martin Speake and Stan Sulzmann. He later formed the Kairos Ensemble, which has toured extensively in the UK and France, released six albums, and been featured on BBC Radio 3 and BBC Radio 4. (danfostersaxophone.com)
His performance credits are particularly strong. He has played with or alongside John Etheridge, Mike Garrick, the Pasadena Roof Orchestra, London Jazz Orchestra, Tony Hadley, Chris de Burgh and Alex Wilson. He also wrote and recorded brass parts for a Freeform Five remix of David Byrne’s Lazy, which Byrne subsequently used on his world tour. (danfostersaxophone.com)
Dan also performs to large audiences at the Battle Proms, while continuing to play jazz clubs and venues around the South East. (danfostersaxophone.com)

Stuart Jackaman
Stuart Jackaman is the guitarist in the trio and an established figure on the Sussex jazz scene. Barnaby’s own previous artist information describes him as an accomplished jazz and classical guitarist who has worked as both a soloist and member of larger ensembles for more than 20 years. (Barnaby’s Lounge)
He and Dan also perform together as a duo. Red Lion Jazz recently billed Dan Foster & Stuart Jackaman together, describing Dan as one of the finest saxophone players audiences will hear. (RedLionJazz)

James Sunney
James Sunney brings a different musical background to the trio. He developed his jazz and improvisation experience in South Africa, playing regularly in ensembles around Johannesburg and Pretoria, before moving to the UK and becoming active in jazz groups around South East England. (Barnaby’s Lounge)
Interestingly, Stuart Jackaman and James Sunney are already an established rhythm-section pairing locally, and Barnaby’s has previously billed them as Dan Foster’s “heavyweight sidemen.” (Barnaby’s Lounge)
