Event Details

‘Renegade Snares: The Resistance And Resilience Of Drum & Bass’ Book Reading and Q&A by Co Author and DJ Mag Editor Carl Loben for our Veganuary events and promotions

The book aims to piece together a definitive history of drum & bass in all its forms, looking at the genre’s roots in soundsystem culture, and tracing its development up to the present day

A fusion of Jamaican dancehall, American hip-hop and Belgian techno, drum & bass is a uniquely British concoction born in multi-cultural London.
A few have told individual stories or given accounts of the early years, but Renegade Snares — a new book written by DJ Mag editors Carl Loben and Ben Murphy — tells the whole tale.

Carl Loben is the Editor-in-Chief of DJ Magazine. A music writer and DJ since the early 1990s, Carl has seen the electronic music scene grow from early beginnings into the worldwide phenomenon it is today, his time at DJ Mag for the past 20 years coinciding with the explosion of dance music worldwide.

As well as being one of the most well-known dance music journalists in the scene, Carl has also been lucky enough to DJ all around the world, and has served time as an artist manager, record label chief, lecturer and promoter too. He’s appeared on numerous radio and TV shows, and is currently co-authoring a book on the history of drum & bass in what spare time he has.

Goldie says: “This book is the truth. No holds barred, it lays it down as it is, and shows with concise clarity the tribalism within this beautiful drum & bass culture. This is definitive for me.”

Speaking about the book, is available to pre-order here now.
