Vampyr is a 1932 German–French horror film directed by Danish director Carl Theodor Dreyer. The film was written by Dreyer and Christen Jul based on elements from J. Sheridan Le Fanu's collection of supernatural stories In a Glass Darkly. Vampyr was funded by Nicolas de Gunzburg who starred in the film under the name of Julian West among a mostly non-professional cast.

Gunzburg plays the role of Allan Grey, a student of the occult who rents a room near the village of Courtempierre, which is under the curse of a vampire. Strange events unfold: An elderly man leaves a packet on Gray's table, and shadows that are seemingly alive lead him toward a castle. At a nearby manor, he witnesses the same man being murdered and gradually learns about the curse of the Vampyr.

Fourth Page are Charlie Beresford – guitar, voice. Carolyn Hume – keyboards. Peter Marsh – bass. Paul May – drums.

A Page of Madness + Warrior Squares live improvised soundtrack

A Page of Madness + Warrior Squares live improvised soundtrack

Kino-Teatr
43-49 Norman Road
Saint Leonards,  TN38 0EQ Map

Warrior Squares return to Kino-Teatr to play an improvised soundtrack to the 1926 silent film A Page of Madness (狂った一頁 Kurutta Ippēji or Kurutta Ichipeiji) by Japanese film director Teinosuke Kinugasa.

The film is the product of an avant-garde group of artists in Japan known as the Shinkankakuha (or School of New Perceptions) who tried to overcome naturalistic representation.

Lost for forty-five years until being rediscovered by Kinugasa in his storehouse in 1971, the print existing today is missing nearly a third of what was shown in theatres in 1926.

The film does not have any intertitles which only adds to its unsettling and disorientating effect while fitting perfectly with Warrior Squares' exploratory and improvisatory approach.

Tickets are £15 available from Kino-Teatr box office and online from Ticketsource: www.ticketsource.co.uk/date/454029

A married farmer falls under the spell of a femme fatale from the city, who tries to convince him to drown his wife, but desperation and turmoil ensue…

"Sunrise" deals with risqué themes such as obsession, temptation, lust and ultimately, redemption.
At the very first Academy Awards in 1928, "Sunrise" won three Oscars; for Unique And Artistic Picture, Jane Gaynor won Best Actress, and Charles Rosher and Karl Struss for their groundbreaking cinematography.

Steve Beresford is a well-known member of the London improvising scene since the 1970s. He has featured on a large number of recordings of improvised music and been involved with Alterations, Imitation Of Life, Derek Bailey’s Company events and with the Portsmouth Sinfonia. Beresford has continued to play free improvisation with a number of prominent musicians including Evan Parker, John Zorn and Han Bennink.

Blanca Regina is an artist, teacher and curator currently involved in creating audio-visual performances, sound-works, installations and film. Her research and practice encompass sound art, free improvisation, moving image, live events, electronic music and performance. She is co-founder of the Live Cinema Foundation.
