Following directly on from this week’s Sundowner we have another showcase of exceptional musicians, so join us at the Jenny for a night of whimsical and colorful folk and rock music.
Headliner Kyla Tilley, known for her emotionally turbulent performances and gymnastic guitar playing, will be supported by an eclectic noise-rock artist Jim Hapax, and a psych-folk singer-songwriter Rob With Stones In His Pockets.
About Kyla:
Kyla Tilley is a Canadian singer-songwriter known for her emotionally turbulent live performances, her gymnastic guitar playing, and her fabulous shoe collection.
Using whatever words she likes, Kyla constructs tales true and tall of fantastic exploits, mundane tasks, and moderate misadventure, delivered through a mix of vocal fusillades, chaotic finger-picking, and kaleidoscopic rhythms, punctuated with scintillating melodies and moments of serenity. Call it prog-folk.
“I noticed again last night how much respect she brings to performing. She honours the work and the audience, and it gets us to honour her in return. That’s a very nice thing.”
– Helge Dascher, House Concert Host, Montreal
“I hear a lot of things in here. There’s a bit of Joni Mitchell, a bit of Bob Dylan, there’s also some Frank Zappa.”
– Chris Batstone, Professor of Rock, St. John’s NL
“When you listen to Kyla Tilley’s music it feels like you are a child again. You listen to that and it just feels like this beautiful intimate experience with childhood.”
– Kalden Berg, singer-songwriter, South Africa
“I’ve never seen anything like that before in my life!”
– Robert Burke, house concert attendee, Nova Scotia
“and she’s … a BEAST.”
– Rob Hinkal, Executive Director, FocusMusic, Baltimore
