Next weeks Mcniff Sundowner special guest is : Paul Rhodes (USA) & Richard Anderson
Joining us first is Paul Rhodes, a guitarist and vocalist from St. Louis, blending Americana, folk and blues. Whether performing solo, with bands, or in session work, his sound brings a rich, rootsy edge to the lineup.
Richard Anderson first caught attention on BBC Radio Scotland in the 2000s, with airplay from the likes of Tom Morton and Janice Forsyth, plus a live session during Celtic Connections.
A seasoned live performer, he’s played everywhere from King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut to the Edinburgh Fringe, earning Glasgow Songwriter’s Club Best Newcomer (2001) and praise for his “memorable songs.”
His debut album Songs That Chose Me (produced by David Scott) brought further acclaim, with comparisons to Elvis Costello. He’s since toured widely, supporting artists including Boo Hewerdine and Kirsty McGee.
Now based in London, Richard returned to music in 2024 and has quickly built a reputation for a warm, engaging live show — with over 50 gigs across the UK and growing buzz as a standout solo act.
Expect thoughtful songwriting, easy charm, and a set that quietly pulls you in.
ABOUT JASON MCNIFF :
Jason is a troubadour who has made nine albums which people call Folk, Americana, or Alt. Country. There is an Englishness in his guitar playing however, and you might like to think of Bert Jansch or Wizz Jones meeting John Prine & Townes Van Zandt. Time Out writes, ‘McNiffs quiet, intimate, fragile-sounding vocals draw you into his world, an almost timeless place, through which he drifts, a romantic loner, a dreamer, at home with the blues.’ He is often touted as one of the UKs most overlooked musical treasures.
‘I love Jason’s version (of Fisherman’s blues)’
Mike Scott, The Waterboys
‘Jason’s versions sound so fresh, whilst staying true to Bert’s timeless music’
