Slam Dunk Presents ‘Slam Sandwich’
February 28 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Slam Dunk is back after a five month hiatus with a brand new format.
The night starts at 7pm with the brooding, creatively charged Oli Spleen performing material from his new solo album ‘Gaslight Illuminations’. His work is personal and emotive, with lyrics that read as poetry on the page. His words are uncompromisingly honest and wonderfully dark.
Here’s Oli with ‘Bury Me Now’
Sandwiched between our two main acts is our diverse open mic slam competition and is open to poets, rappers, singer/songwriters – and must be all original content. There are five slots open all together and potential slammers can leave their name at the door to be chosen for the slam. Each table will decide on a favourite act, the names will be counted up during the break and presented with a prize.
First time slammers get free entry. Entry for everyone else will be £7 (message us personally for concessions).
If you wish to slam just bring one poem of no longer that three minutes in length. Must be original work – any style is welcome.
To finish the night off with a bang – we have the wonderful Canterbury based poet Sadie Davidson who will be performing the last leg of her UK tour, performing poems from her new collection of poems called ‘The poverty guide handbook’. Sadie has a delicious sense of humour and direct style, with poetry inspired by her own gritty experiences as an ex stripper and addict.
Here is Sadie performing from ‘Class Ceiling’.
The event runs from 7pm to 10pm and the venue is open until midnight. There is access to the venue, but please contact us in advance if you need access to the stage.
Previously at Slam Dunk we have had a merch table. We will not be doing this at Slam Sandwich, but people are still welcome sell their own books during the break and after the event.
