Lily Ramona

March 11 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm

As part of the Hastings Women’s Jazz Festival we are delighted to welcome Lily Ramona to the Albion for our seafront session at 4pm.

(The session will be an acoustic interval in the seafront bar away from the Suzie Simms benefit day that will be running in the Scottish Bar – no food today folks apart from pasties in the shack).

LILY RAMONA’s parents met whilst squatting in London playing in punk bands. She started singing in pubs at 8yrs, then harmonising with her step mum and playing the makeshift stand up drum kit with her dad playing acoustic lead guitar the family folk/country trio the HANK DOGS was born. Signed and produced by Joe Boyd (Nick Drake, Incredible String Band, REM) they toured the world, including a US tour supporting Joan Baez. The well ran dry and after a long break, compelled to sing and perform again, Lily Ramona picked up the beaten-up old Yamaha guitar her dad had given her years earlier and surprised herself by writing her own songs. With renewed passion and inspiration, Lily released an Indie Folk solo acoustic EP ‘Into the Mirror’ with Trevor Moss and the A.P.R.C. Likened to Joni Mitchell and Suzanne Vega, Lily creates a sound which is both traditional and modern. Her vocals embody a freshness and natural charm that reflect a pure love of melody and the joy of singing. Lily’s vocals are duly matched by her Guitar playing. An accomplished Guitar player; Lily works hard to create more than mere accompaniment. With more than a nod to traditional and technical aspects of the Folk genre, her playing retains a freshness and abandonment which is a perfect compliment to her vocals. Lily’s songwriting exhibits purity and maturity in equal measure; lyrics which touch on the real and the imagined are portrayed with the passion of a true artist. Her vocals embody a freshness and natural charm that reflect the pure love of melody and singing.
