Be Natural – The Untold Story of Alice Guy-Blache
February 12 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Narrated by the Academy Award winning actress Jodie Foster, Be Natural: The Untold Story of Alice Guy-Blaché is a feature documentary investigating the full scope of the life and work of cinema’s first female director, screenwriter, producer, and studio owner Alice Guy-Blaché.Alice Guy-Blaché was a French giant of silent film-making.
Guy-Blaché was a French giant of silent film-making who with her 1896 short film The Cabbage Fairy was not only the first female director working in the embryonic world of moving pictures, but the first director to make a piece of narrative cinema (The Great Train Robbery, traditionally regarded as the first narrative film, was made in 1903).
She became a movie-making powerhouse — a writer, producer and director — and shot more than 1,000 films in two decades. Then she disappeared and was written out of film history.
This documentary, deftly assembled by Pamela B Green, reconstructs Guy-Blaché’s legend with the help of Jodie…
